Protests

PROTESTS WILL BE REVIEWED ONLY UNDER THE FOLLOWING TWO CIRCUMSTANCES:

1. UNEXPECTED OCCURENCES, E.G. SPONSOR BANNER FLIES INTO THE PATH OF A TEAM DURING
DEMONSTRATION SKIING

2. SHOW MECHANICS, E.G. MUSIC CD SKIPS IN DEMONSTRATION SKIING.

PROTESTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED  FOR EQUIPMENT FAILURE OR ERRORS DUE TO SNOW OR
WEATHER CONDITIONS.

PROTESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE TEAM COACH TO THE HEAD JUDGE AT THE JUDGING PLATFORM
NO LATER THAN 15 MINUTES AFTER THE RUN IN QUESTION.

THE JUDGING PANEL WILL REVIEW THE PROTEST AS A GROUP AND THE HEAD JUDGE WILL NOTIFY THE
TEAM COACH OF IT’S DECISION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

THE JUDGING PANELS‘ DECISION IS FINAL.

TEAMS MAY NOT ATTEMPT TO DISCUSS PROTESTS OR ANY OTHER MATTER WITH THE JUDGING PANEL
AT ANY OTHER TIME OTHER THAN THROUGH THEIR COACHES AT THE COACHES MEETING.

TEAM MEMBERS PHYSICALLY OR VERBALLY HARRASSING A JUDGE OR ANY OTHER MEMBER OF THE
ORGANIZING STAFF WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE COMPETITON AND ASKED TO LEAVE THE HOST
RESORT IMMEDIATELY.

Safety

TEAMS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO CONSIDER HELMET USE BY ALL TEAM MEMBERS IN EACH
EVENT.

TEAMS ARE REMINDED THAT HISTORICALLY, A MORE SIMPLE, SAFER, DEMONSTRATION RUN EXECUTED
WELL MOST OFTEN SCORES HIGHER THAN A MORE DIFFICULT, HIGH RISK PASS EXECUTED POORLY.

ALL TEAM MEMBERS ACKNOWLEDGE WHEN ENTERING THIS EVENT THAT  TEAM DEMONSTRATION
SKIING IS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS BY IT’S NATURE AND THAT ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED IN
THE HISTORY OF THIS EVENT.  ALL TEAM MEMBERS MUST SIGN LIABILITY WAIVERS AT REGISTRATION,
CONFIRMING THAT THEY WILL HOLD HARMLESS THE ORGANIZERS, HOST RESORT, ASSOCIATED
SPONSORS AND ALL OTHER PARTIES OTHER THAN THEMSELVES.

COMPETITION (I.E. TEAM IN LAST PLACE WILL SKI FIRST).

TEAMS NOT PRESENT AT THE START IN GOOD TIME FOR THEIR RUN WITHOUT GOOD REASON MAY BE
DISQUALIFIED FROM THE COMPETITION.

Competition hill dimensions

HILL DIMENSIONS  ARE APPROXIMATE AND MAY CHANGE ACCORDING TO SNOW CONDITIONS AND
GENERAL LOGISTICS, AS MAY THE ACTUAL RUN NAMED AS THE COMPETITION HILL. THE ASPEN
NORTH AMERICAN RUN  FAIRLY FLAT ON TOP, BECOMING GRADUALLY STEEPER REMAINING A FAIRLY
CONSTANT PITCH (Average Blue slope) UNTIL IT IS QUITE FLAT BY THE BOTTOM FENCE.

TOTAL LENGTH OF RUN IS APPROXIMATELY 270 METERS, 35 METERS WIDE

THE JUMP WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 162 METERS FROM THE TOP OF THE ARENA ON THE SKIER'S LEFT
SIDE OF THE RUN.

THE PRACTICE DAY IS PROVIDED SO THAT TEAMS MAY REFINE THEIR DEMONSTRATIONS TO FIT THE
ACTUAL COMPETITION HILL.
Team Demonstration Skiing - music requirements

TEAMS MUST ATTEMPT THEIR DEMONSTRATION PASSES TO MUSIC.

TEAMS MAY ATTEMPT TO SKI TOTALLY IN TIME WITH THEIR CHOICE OF MUSIC, ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT
CONSIDERED CRITICAL TO ANY OF THE JUDGING CRITERIA.

TEAMS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN FULL SIZE MUSIC CD (NOT MINI DISKS) FOR THEIR 4
DEMONSTRATIONS INCLUDING THE SCHOOL FIGURE. (PREFERABLY ON ONE CD IF POSSIBLE.)

TEAM COACH MUST COMPLETE THE MUSIC SHEET PROVIDED ON THE WEBSITE  (WWW.ASPENTEAMDIVA.
COM/MUSICSHEET) AND TURN IT IN AT THE EVENT REGISTRATION. PLEASE HAND THIS IN AS ONE CD
BURNED AT SLOW SPEED (4X) WITH EACH TRACK CORRESPONDING TO THE PASS. (PASS ONE-TRACK
ONE, ETC.)  OTHERWISE, HAND IN FOUR FULL SIZE MUSIC CD’S CLEARLY LABELED ON THE ACTUAL
DISK AND ON THE CASE, WITH TEAM RESORT NAME, DIVISION, PASS NUMBER, (1, 2, 3 OR 4) (PASS #2 IS
THE SCHOOL FIGURE) AND TRACK NUMBER AND SONG NAME TO BE PLAYED.

PLEASE KEEP MUSIC TRACKS G-RATED, IE: NO PROFANE OR INDECENTLY SUGGUESTIVE LYRICS.

Team Demonstration Skiing - repetition

TEAMS MAY SKI THE SAME DEMONSTRATION TWICE.

Team Demonstration Skiing - substitutions

ONE RESERVE SKIER MAY BE SUBSTITUTED INTO A TEAM AT ANY TIME AT THE DISCRETION OF EACH
INDIVIDUAL TEAM COACH OR CAPTAIN. (TEAMS USUALLY CONSIST OF 9 MEMBERS WITH 8
SKIERS/RIDERS SKIING IN EACH PASS)

THE SUBSTITUTE (9th PERSON) MAY ALTERNATE IN AND OUT OF THE TEAM ANY NUMBER OF TIMES.

THE SUBSTITUTE (9th PERSON) MUST BE THE INDIVIDUAL LISTED ON THE OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM.

TEAMS ATTEMPTING TO SUBSTITUE A 10th PERSON BEYOND THE 9 REGISTERED TEAM MEMBERS WILL BE
DISQUALIFIED.

TEAMS WHICH SUFFER TWO ATHLETE INJURIES LEAVING THEM WITH ONLY SEVEN FIT MEMBERS MUST RETIRE FROM
THE COMPETITION.
Team Demonstration Skiing - degree of difficulty

THE TWO TECHNICAL JUDGES WILL SCORE THE DIFFICULTY OF EACH DEMONSTRATION BEING
ATTEMPTED BY TAKING THE FOLLOWING INTO CONSIDERATION:

FORMATION(S) BEING ATTEMPTED: (POSITIONS OF TEAM MEMBERS CHANGING TO CREATE (A) NEW
PATTERN(S)).

THE RHYTHM(S) (CHANGES) BEING ATTEMPTED: (CHANGES IN THE TURN COUNT)

TURN SHAPES BEING ATTEMPTED (SHORT, MEDIUM OR LONG TURNS, COMBINATIONS)

EXTREMELY DIFFICULY MANOUVERS BEING ATTEMPTED. (EXTREMELY DIFFICULT MANOUVERS INCLUDE
BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: OUTRIGGERS,  ROYAL CHRISTIES, TURNS IN A CROSSED LEG POSITION, ONE
OR MORE ATTEMPT AT 360 SPINS ON THE SNOW, ATTEMPTINGTHE JUMPS, HOLDING A VERTICAL LINE IN
TWO OR MORE LONG TURNS,  (AS IN THE SCHOOL FIGURE). THE TECHNICAL JUDGES HAVE THE RIGHT TO
INCLUDE ANY MANOUVER IN THE “EXTREMELY DIFFICULT MANOUVER CATEGORY

STOPS BEING ATTEMPTED - TEAMS THAT MEASURE THEIR RUNS TO STOP CLOSER TO THE BOTTOM FENCE
WILL SCORE HIGHER THAN THOSE THAT FINISH HIGHER UP THE HILL.

COACHES ARE REMINDED THAT HISTORICALLY, SIMPLE DEMONSTRATIONS EXECUTED WELL HAVE MOST
OFTEN SCORED HIGHER THAN MORE DIFFICULT DEMONSTRATION EXECUTED POORLY.  TEAMS ARE NOT
RECOMMENDED TO ATTEMPT MORE THAN FOUR CHANGES IN RHYTHM, TURN SHAPE OR FORMATION
DURING A DEMONSTRATION PASS.

THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY FOR THE SCHOOL FIGURE IS SET AT 3 (POINTS).

Jumping - judging criteria for jump pass

THE FOUR CRITERIAS FOR JUDGING ARE:

1. DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY:  DIFFICULTY OF AERIAL MANOUVERS BEING ATTEMPTED:  (SINGLE, DOUBLE,
TRIPLE OR QUAD MANOUVERS, 360’S, 540'S OR 720’S).  INVERTED AERIAL MANOUVERS ARE
PROHIBITED.

2. FORM: POSITION OF THE BODY IN THE AIR. PRECISION OF PERFORMANCE, ECONOMY OF MOTION,
BALANCE, MECHANICS, STABILITY AND TIMING.

3. LANDING: BALANCED, STABLE AND CONTROLLED BODY POSITION. ABSORPTION MADE PRIMARILY
WITH KNEES AND LOWER BODY WITH ONLY SLIGHT BENDING AT THE WAIST.

4. OVERALL IMPRESSION: GOOD HEIGHT BY JUMPERS, ENTERTAINING, EXCITING SHOWMANSHIP.
INNOVATIVE PERFORMANCE IDEAS - (E.G. DOUBLE MANOUVERS IN SYNCH,  360'S IN OPPOSITE SYNCH,
ETC).

Team Demonstration Skiing - mandatory deductions

ALL MANDATORY DEDUCTIONS WILL BE SUBTRACTED IN THE “OVERALL APPEARANCE CRITERIA
ON EACH SUBJECTIVE JUDGE'S SCORE SHEET.

FAILURE TO COMPLETE A PASS WITH ALL EIGHT TEAM MEMBERS - 2 POINTS PER SUBJECTIVE JUDGE.

SLIDING OUT OF POSITION ON A STOP - 0.5 POINTS PER SUBJECTIVE JUDGE

FALL BY A TEAM MEMBER 1.0 PER FALL WITH A MAXIMUM OF 5 POINTS PER SUBJECITVE JUDGE.

A FALL IS DEFINED BY THE UPPER BODY (ABOVE THE HIPS) IMPACTING THE SNOW UNINTENTIONALLY.

HANDS TOUCHING THE SNOW, HIPS TOUCHING THE SNOW, DO NOT INCUR MANDATORY DEDUCTIONS,
ALTHOUGH IT IS PROBABLE THAT SUCH OCCURANCES WILL RESULT IN DISCRIMINATORY DEDUCTIONS.

EACH JUDGE WILL MAKE A MANDATORY DEDUCTION OF 3 POINTS FROM THE OVERALL APPEARANCE
CATEGORY IF THE SCHOOL FIGURE IS NOT PERFORMED EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE
RULEBOOK
DIAGRAM
Team Demonstration Skiing Requirements

TEAMS MUST PREPARE FOUR (4) DEMONSTRATION PASSES (RUNS).

ONE OF THOSE DEMONSTRATION PASSES WILL BE THE
COMPULSORY SCHOOL FIGURE.

ONE OF THE OTHER THREE PASSES MAY INCLUDE THE ELECTIVE USE OF A JUMP

EACH PASS MUST INCLUDE EIGHT TEAM MEMBERS EXACTLY.

EACH PASS WILL COUNT TOWARDS THE TOTAL SCORE. THERE WILL BE NO THROW OUT RULE

TEAMS SHOULD CREATE A NAME FOR EACH PASS BY WHICH TO IDENTIFY IT, E.G. POP – OUT,  DOUBLE
TROUBLE, TURKISH DELIGHT, ETC.

Team Demonstration Skiing - Subjective judging criteria

THE THREE CRITERIAS (WEIGHTINGS SHOWN IN PARENTHESES) FOR SUBJECTIVE JUDGING ARE:

1. SYNCHRONICITY:  (25% OF TOTAL MARK) ALL SKIERS MOVEMENTS EXACTLY IN TIME WITH ONE
ANOTHER, WITH CONSIDERATION TO THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY OF THE MANOUVER BEING
ATTEMPTED.

2. SKI TECHNIQUE:  (25% OF TOTAL MARK) ALL SKIERS MAKING CONTROLLED, AGGRESSIVE, CARVED
TURNS WITH AESTHETICALLY PLEASING STANCE, DISCIPLINE AND ECONOMY OF MOTION.

3. OVERALL APPEARANCE:  (25% OF TOTAL MARK) ENTERTAINING, EXCITING CHOREOGRAPHY AND
SHOWMANSHIP.

Team Demonstration Skiing - judging panel

THE JUDGING PANEL WILL BE MADE UP OF EIGHT JUDGES (REPRESENTING AT LEAST 4 DIFFERENT SKI
AREAS)

THERE WILL BE SIX “SUBJECTIVE JUDGES WHO WILL SCORE ALL THREE ELEMENTS OF THE
CRITERIA, EXCLUDING THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY, FOR EACH PASS.

THERE WILL BE TWO “TECHNICAL JUDGES WHO WILL ASCERTAIN THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY
FOR EACH PASS.
Team Demonstration skiing - scoring system

ALL TEAMS WILL BE JUDGED TOGETHER IN ONE DIVISION.

THE POINT SYSTEM FOR SCORING EACH PASS IS AS FOLLOWS:

CRITERIA                 MAXIMUM SCORE        PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL SCORE                      JUDGE TYPE

SYNCHRO                                5                            25%                                                       SUBJECTIVE JUDGE

SKI TECHNIQUE                      5                            25%                                                       SUBJECTIVE JUDGE

OVERALL APPEARANCE          5                            25%                                                       SUBJECTIVE JUDGE

DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY        5                             25%                                                      TECHNICAL  JUDGE

TOTAL                                   20                            100%

ALL JUDGES WILL SCORE IN INCREMENTS OF (0.10),  E.G. 3.2, 4.6

THE SIX SUBJECTIVE JUDGES WILL GIVE A SCORE (MAXIMUM 5 POINTS) FOR EACH OF THE THREE
CRITERIA: SYNCHRONICITY, SKI TECHNIQUE AND OVERALL APPEARANCE, MAXIMUM 15 POINTS.

THE HIGH SCORE AND THE LOW SCORE FROM THE SIX SUBJECTIVE JUDGES WILL BE THROWN OUT TO
LEAVE ONLY FOUR SCORES OF A MAXIMUM 15 POINTS EACH (MAX TOTAL FOR SUBJECTIVE JUDGES 60
POINTS)

THE AVERAGE OF THE TWO TECHNICAL JUDGE'S SCORES (MAXIMUM 5 POINTS) IS ADDED TO EACH
REMAINING  SUBJECTIVE JUDGE'S SCORE OF 15 POINTS TO TOTAL A MAXIMUM 20 POINTS, PROVIDING
A MAXIMUM TOTAL OF 80 POINTS PER PASS.

AT THE END OF EACH ROUND OF DEMONSTRATION PASSES, THE RESULTS WILL BE ASSIGNED POINTS
AS FOLLOWS:

1ST PLACE -  100 POINTS
2ND   95
3RD   90
4TH   85
5TH   80
6TH   75
7TH   70
8TH   65
etc.

THE POINTS FOR EACH DEMONSTRATION PASS WILL BE ADDED CUMULATIVELY TO GIVE A RUNNING
TOTAL FROM ONE RUN TO THE NEXT, UNTIL THE FINAL TOTAL OF POINTS IS REACHED AFTER THE 4
PASSES.

IF THERE ARE
TIE SCORES IN THE FINAL RESULTS AFTER ALL FOUR PASSES ARE COMPLETED, THE
HIGHER SCORING TEAM IN THE SCHOOL FIGURE WILL TAKE THE LEAD BETWEEN THE TIED TEAMS. THE
ACTUAL JUDGE'S SCORE WILL BE USED RATHER THAN THE POINTS ASSIGNED AFTER RANKING THE
TEAMS.
IF THERE IS STILL A TIE, HIGH AND LOW SCORES WHICH WERE THROWN OUT WILL B E INCLUDED.
IF THERE IS STILL A TIE, THE 2 TEAMS MAY DO A FIFTH REPEAT PASS OF THEIR CHOICE.
